Tips for traveling with your pet

• Secure your pet in a pet car seat or secure their carrier in the back seat with a seat belt. Sudden stops can send your pet flying, which can injure you or your pet.
• Never leave your pet in the car during the summer months. Most people don't realize that the temperature inside a car can skyrocket after just a few minutes. Parking in the shade or leaving the windows cracked does little to alleviate this pressure cooker
• Be sure to bring your pet's favorite toy and bedding. Pack enough food for the trip and a jug of water.
• Make sure your pet is wearing an identification tag. Carry a picture or your pet, tattoo information, or microchip.
• Pack your pet's medical records, along with your veterinarians phone number.
• Do not let your dog put his head out of a moving vehicle, this can lead to mouth, head or eye injuries.
• Check by state for motel and hotel chains that accept pets. Always double check if a hotel or motel will take pets, as even within chains individual motels may have different rules. Be aware that most motels tack on a surcharge if your pet stays with you.
